Abstract
This article primarily examines the legal status of a foreign woman following the dissolution of her marriage to an Iranian man and analyzes the possibility or obligation of her reversion to her original nationality under Iranian and French law. In traditional nationality systems, a woman’s nationality was generally dependent upon that of her husband; however, developments in human rights law and the recognition of the principle of gender equality have significantly transformed this approach.
The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the legal foundations and consequences of reversion to original nationality after the dissolution of marriage, as well as to assess the extent of women’s autonomy of will in the two legal systems under consideration. The research adopts a descriptive–analytical and library-based methodology and, through the examination of statutory provisions, judicial decisions, and relevant international instruments, seeks to identify the similarities and differences between Iranian and French law.
