The ruling governments in Syria in general throughout history, they considered the Kurds as an immigrant population and not as native and authentic citizens of this country. Not only are they unwilling to grant autonomy to this minority and define an ethnic identity for them,Rather, they have not recognized them as Syrian citizens and given them Syrian identity. What we have seen again since February 2011 shows the widespread and systematic violation of the fundamental rights of the Kurdish minority in this country by government forces as well as armed and militia groups supporting the government in the Syrian crisis. This unconventional approach to Kurdish identity has caused gross violations of international obligations and the most basic human rights of the Kurdish minority in Syria. Until now, the ruling governments in Syria have clearly violated the rights of the Kurds based on the rules and obligations of international law, which proves that it opens a promising window of guarantees of international law to support and recognize the Kurds as a minority.
