The Russia-Ukraine war began on February 25, 2022, after months of tension and the presence of Russian military forces on the Ukrainian border, with Putin ordering an all-out military offensive. Russia, realizing the threat and dangers posed by the movements and actions of the United States and NATO in Eastern Europe and Putin's claim that the Ukrainian government had committed the crime of genocide in the east of the country, caused the Ukrainian authorities to justify their invasion against Ukraine by invoking the principle of the right to use force. In the meantime, Russia's widespread invasion of Ukraine, while undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, is contrary to the principles of the United Nations Charter and a violation of international humanitarian law. Therefore, the main question of the research is: What is the status of Russia's 2022 war against Ukraine from the perspective of international law? The hypothesis of the article is that Russia’s 2022 large-scale invasion of Ukraine, claiming to prevent the cessation of Ukrainian genocidal crimes in the eastern Donbas region, is considered an aggression against the territorial integrity and political independence of Ukraine, which will not only violate the principle of non-use of force by the Russian authorities, but will also undermine the international legal order.
